A Reason To Live: This will be my hardest draw ever. :(
« on: April 09, 2010, 08:25:23 AM »

As a few of you know, Drunkduck opened a store that is selling artwork. I posted some of the artwork there from the Winged One, but of course, I want to try doing some of my own, but I want it to be something that people would be alright with buying. Now, I saw some artwork on sale that is at about my skill level, so I think it's ok, and hey, no harm in trying right. But, in short I really want to push myself.

That brings us to my picture idea. For a while now, I think ever since I've come up with the character of Pepper for the Black Eyes and Winged One series, I have had this idea for a scene and I now want to draw it.

I'll have to brake down the scene a bit and explain the characters behind it to make it, make sense.

Veronica(a character from my Winged One series) is a girl who grew up in a very strict house hold, so when she came out of the closet and admitted she was gay, she found herself under a lot of pressure. This stressed her out, which ended up in her lashing out at her girlfriend at the time, Shelly. Shelly then promptly left her, and Veronica has never been able to forgive herself for her own actions. As a result, she is always trying her hardest to be open and honest about who she is, which is one of the reasons she wears her skunk outfit(if you want I can explain that plot point too, but this post is going to be long enough as is).

Anyways, she got an electric guitar and formed a band, because she simply always wanted to.

This band is composed of several members, most of which while doing their rock songs dress up as animals. It’s kind of like a theme for the band. They put on shows, shoot of fire works, bite of bat heads, you get the picture. Smiley

This brings us to Pepper, the drummer for the band. Pepper is a girl who’s a bit of a dumb blond and her animal get up is rather revealing, but in a very easy and playful way. Veronica of course is instantly attracted to her, but Pepper’s straight, so it would clearly never work out, and sadly by the end of the day Veronica is still very shy.

The band is now playing their latest gig, and it pretty much plays out like the opening of Streets Of Fire. So of course some random monsters crash the show and start killing people at random. I’m not sure what the monsters are yet, this is a modern day fantasy world so they could be anything. Maybe vampires (shrugs). It doesn’t really matter.

What does matter is Veronica decides to do what she does best and kick some a$$! So she pulls out her guitar, is about to start kicking some but, and then realizes, I might just die right now. So, she figures she better give herself one more thing worth living for before she goes. She grabs Pepper, kisses her, and I mean a hard, passionate, I might be dying in the next minute kiss, Pepper then slaps her, and then Veronica kicks some a$$!

Now, I want to turn that kiss into a picture. I want to draw Veronica laying one on Pepper.

It will be very hard to do this I know, but I want to try.

So now that I’ve told you the whole back story and what I want to draw, here’s where your help can come into play. I’m as you all know still new to this, so I could REALLY use a good base for this to work off. This may sound perverted, but does anyone here have any good pics of two anime style women kissing? Anything at all to work off of would be very helpful. Also, of course any tips would be helpful too. Well, I better get started.

Here's the pic so far.

Pros, well, I like how shocked Pepper looks.

Cons, you can kind of tell I drew this on two different pages and then slided them together. I don't know why, but this ended up as a two page spread.

Veronica's arm should not be able to bend the way it is doing. People aren't made out of spaghetti.

This ended up alright. Sadly it doesn't reflect the hard work I put into it. Anyone got more pointers?

Oh and yes, before anyone calls me on this, yes I did leave out Pepper's bunny ears. I wasn't skilled enough to include them and they would of wrecked the pic.

I kind of like it better without them anyways. Heck, maybe they got knocked off her in all the craziness. That's not to hard to buy into. Wink

The current picture looks too flat.
Try to build the bodys using simpler shapes, and adding details only when you're sure you got the basic anatomy right.

Her's a tutorial on how to do that, and a link about proportions.

Please post a picture before you add in the details, so that we can check the anatomy before it gets too diffult to correct.

Ya, I admit, I did shoot myself in the foot by pretty much just posting the end pic. I still have a hard time getting my mind to work around drawing something in stages like you guys do. I push to hard with my pencil to much still for me to do it right. I don't know why I have such a heavy hand. I guess it's just a bad habit I've got to brake.

You have a pretty heavy hand 'cause you're accustomed to writing, not drawing. This can be fixed only by drawing a lot (it doesn't have to be something very complex, tracing helps alot here).
Also, try to draw some basic figures (no need to draw the details, and by details I mean the eyes, nose, mouth, muscles, etc.) by using simpler shapes than post them here, when you have time.
