'Tis the plunge, people! Starting to paint over the line art, sharpening edges, getting textures, and trying not to lose form and value as I proceed. So far, so good. Saving details and highlights for the back burner at the very end, which will come at its own leisurely pace. (Uploaded by RinoaDestiny) |

Night scene is usually a tough thing to do, I would throw some moon lights around the riders if you want to keep the warriors hidden, then add some rim lights, darken the warriors... that would look sweet and mysterious. An illustration does require the contrast to excite the viewer. Looking good, keep building! |

With the underlying line art and body structure still intact on a separate layer, I figured out my colors and shapes. I printed out the composition in black-and-white, then drew out the clothing with pen as a preliminary study and then used that as a guide when I went into openCanvas. This scene takes place at night. Since they're ambushed during the evening, I'm being very careful with my color choices/temperatures/values. (Uploaded by RinoaDestiny) |

finally took a break. Continue this pic. Everyone of my illustration... like 80% of it is about resting somewhere because i always do illustration when i feel like resting. lol Just extended the old composition and giving it a different feel. I love the dappled light on the forest floor and the cute liddle squirrel. Jeremy looks like he's in a comfortable place.

OK, I'm noticing something recently. It seems like now, when I draw for fun, the piece turns out better than when I used to slave away at it and nitpick it to death. This was just a drawing for the night. For fun. Now, it's turned into its own full-blown illustration in rough sketch mode. Man, I'm grateful for life drawing in this case. And uh...I got horses? *grin* This scene is when Cian is keeping Aidan and himself away from the slavers after slaughtering a few of the ones encroaching upon the young lad. I never realized until now just how awesome the scene must be...Cian on high ground, evading the enemy. Whooo! (Uploaded by RinoaDestiny) |

Looks great, looks like when you are more at ease, all those knowledge that you got pounded with starts to flow. Keep it up.

Yeah, it sure seems that way. From now on, I'll just draw for fun!

amazing update Yann, looking at the cool stuff you are doing is very inspiring. GAHHHH I want to draw. X3 I have sometime to sketch now finally, on breaks from my volunteer work but not really. I don't have internet and all my books with me in Shanghai China... so it's a bit harder to use references. T_T *cries* I want to do some amazing concept art like you are working on too. ![]() I don't like doing painting in black and white then color... *though I know the proceedure* but it's such a useful tool. X3 Especially if you are working for a client. (Edited on July 19, 2010, 8:07 pm) |

I need to get used to the gray to color process too. It can be really useful. But I have the split opinions when it comes to gray in painting, using only value scale first can bother me. (not with drawing which is strange) But I should over come that. Right now I am almost done in Shanghai and I will be home soon looking for jobs. X3 Bank account about empty I need to job hunt quickly. *waaaaahhhh We did help a lot of people to deal with their emotional issues and life difficulties, I feel good about that, but I feel I completely neglected art practices in this 1 month. T_T Originally I planned to draw on my laptop, but with my laptop lagging so much and my family need to share it, I stopped drawing on it. OTL I shall catch back and level up quickly when I get back home. :3 |
